Perhaps most notably depicted in the 2019 Netflix Mexican Spanish-language drama film Ya no estoy aquí (English: I'm No Longer Here), this particular art style originates from the counter-culture of Kolombia: a lifestyle that consists of dancing and listening to "Cumbia rebajada" (a slowed version of Cumbia music).
Photographer Stefan Ruiz is renowned for his documentation of Cholombianos associated with said youth subculture: characterised by slick, sculptural hairstyles, oversized clothing, hand-woven accessories and, of course, graffiti iconography.
As Archivo CMBS - Cumbiamberos states, "Desde los años 80 los CMBS hicieron de la calle su espacio de expresión. Apañes, cumbia y convivencia" (English: "Since the 1980s, the CMBS have made the street their space for expression. Apañes, cumbia and coexistence").
